Hi. I'm Matt. I'm some twenty-something. I have vague dreams of being a music journalist. Either that or a Rock Star. I haven't decided yet. I mainly just post random shit about stuff that I like or things that have happened to me in my not-so-thrilling day to day life. I'm kind of a nerd, but an awesome one.

So Cats and Cats and Cats called it a day a while ago, and they still have some shows left but I can’t get to any of them and it’s a little upsetting that I’ll never see them again. I only ever saw them the once anyway, years ago. I was reminded of all of this today because they’re putting out a retrospective collection and it was announced by their label today. I don’t want to spend £8 on a record full of songs I already have, but it’s really tempting because it comes with a download code for a whole bunch of rarities and stuff that I probably don’t have.
I’ve sent a message on Facebook to their label (not the most effective action, I know), telling them that they should put the rare stuff up as a paid download on bandcamp because although I don’t want to spend £8 for the physical record of songs I already have, I’d happily spend a couple quid on the download of the rare stuff. I mean, they’re giving it away for free with the record anyway, so if they don’t let me actually give them a bit of money for just that, then they’re idiots.
I mean, the label are selling ‘The End Of The Unfinished Beach”, their 24 hour album, for £2 on bandcamp, so they’re obviously aware of how the site works and how it can be used. It would just be crazy, and a bit of a dick move to fans who already have all of their actual records, to not let us get our hands on the rarities in a cheap and convenient way.
I actually only just bought The End Of The Unfinished Beach today and, as “24 Hour Album” suggests, it was made in a day, on one microphone and a laptop, at one of their flats. Feels a bit weird that it’s their last ever recording, especially when Motherwhale was so epic, and ends in a way that just felt so… final. But it’s cool. Only 25 minutes long, it’s this stripped back and fuzzy lo-fi record of cutesy pop songs. Plenty of melodica. Doesn’t really stand up to the rest of their body of work, but as someone who loves this band, it’s cool to hear yet another side of them.
Anyway, I’m gonna spend a big chunk of today listening to every Cats album/EP that I have, and it will be awesome, but also a little sad. Why do all the good bands have to give up?

See there I was thinking that a ‘24 hour album’ meant that it was 24 hours long. But that would be RIDICULOUS.
