Hi. I'm Matt. I'm some twenty-something. I have vague dreams of being a music journalist. Either that or a Rock Star. I haven't decided yet. I mainly just post random shit about stuff that I like or things that have happened to me in my not-so-thrilling day to day life. I'm kind of a nerd, but an awesome one.

The Hold Steady - The Weekenders

She said ‘the theme of this party’s the Industrial Age,
And you came in dressed like a train wreck.’

I don’t know why, but I’ve always kind of neglected to most recent Hold Steady record. I think because it’s pretty much just not as good as Boys and Girls in America or Stay Positive I’ve always just listen to either of those instead. But I’ve got it on this morning and it is really good. Because it’s the fucking Hold Steady, of course it’s good. I think they are lacking something without Franz though. Seeing them live without him was odd too, because they didn’t really even try to fill the void. It meant that during Stuck Between Stations when there should have been an awesome piano breakdown, they didn’t have anything. It was odd.

Anyway, this song is one of the best songs on their latest record and it is just awesome. I think Craig Finn may be one of my favourite lyricists of all time because of the intricate detail that he weaves into every narrative. I love all the recurring themes too, like every song is connected or something. You could definitely make a really good Hold Steady drinking game for sure, especially for the first few records. I’m pretty intrigued to see what his solo album will be like. It might just be like a Hold Steady record but with slightly different instrumentation or something.
